MSN Talk 2.22

Long time no updates.

First of all, MSN Talk 2.22 was came out. It’s not a huge update. I just added small amount of features and bug fixes.

Change logs are as following.

  • Can show Change Logs on menu.
  • Can install MSN Talk into SD card if you are using Android 2.2 (Froyo).
  • Can chat with Yahoo contacts. it’s experimental feature.
  • Changed notification icon when receiving a new message. Not using Google Talk’s icon anymore.
  • Can open MSN Talk via notification area ongoing icon.
  • Small performance improvement when opening contact list.
  • Support unicode characters when receiving Offline messages.

Thanks for using and loving MSN Talk and sorry for bugs.

I found a bug during receiving message –

    1. Send a message to MSN Talk, it will notify a message is received.
    2. Open the chatting window in MSN Talk and you will see the message.
    3. Close the chatting window in MSN Talk and stay in the contact list.

No more message with be received from that particular sender until the phone return to home screen or somewhere other than the contact list.

Please have somebody to verify if this is a bug. I am using Samsung Galaxy S.

Has anyone had the message box occasionally stop updating after a few characters? You can still type but you can’t see you message until you hit send. I can usually fix it by ending the chat and reopening it.

I’m using a Samsung Galaxy Spica, v1.5 with the Android keyboard. I’ve only seen this happen in MSN Talk so far.

Great app! I use it all the time.

Great app and can’t wait for the Pro version.
Something I would like to see (if possible to do) is to have all my active conversations that i have on my computer to show up on my phone when I sign in. I sometimes leave my MSN open at home as away but then I want to sign in on the go but I cannot see if I had msgs when I was gone.

I think this would be a great feature if able.

Keep up the good work! I will definitely buy the Pro!

    Hi !

I can’t login to my MSn accoutn it says “Sign in Failed. The account you provided is not appropriate to sign in. Please try again with correct information”, my Windows Live Account is a gmail adress, not hotmail or msn, is it the reason why I can’t connect ?

    Hi,

I’m a big msn fan … MSN talk is the best msn appli on android up to now.

However what I see is that I often get disconnected and as such is difficult to have a good conversation on the long run.

For me it seems that once the screen is locked blank the application connect and disconnect randomly. (this doesn’t happen in an ongoing active chat)

Saw you published the Pro version. Can not buy it in the market, i am living in Argentina. Can you establish PayPal payment. But then there is the questions about updates, or do you sell a license file which enables the pro features in the free version? That would be the best solution.

Brilliant app. Well worth the pro version however I have some suggestions. Firstly, on my HTC legend, if the end of the line comes half way through a word then it splits the word so I get a bit on the end of one line and the rest on the start of the next. Not a huge issue but slightly annoying. A fix for this would be very welcome. Secondly, the speech bubbles look a little flat. The custom colours are fine but would look so much better with a more 3D effect. See chomp sms for what I mean. Other than that, very good work

        July 30, 2010 at 12:36 am

Where did you see the notification that this was happening? It’s normal behavior to see that on your PC while logging in via another client. If your connection wasn’t steady teh entire time, or you were moving from 3G to WiFi and back throughout the course of the day, it would explain why it happened multiple times.

Love this app, but having a problem where if I use it on my phone, then a bit later I go to use MSN on my PC, I’ve lost my user icon and status message and my display name has been reset. Is there a way to stop this happening?

    • David
      August 4, 2010 at 10:58 am

I think it only happens if the user is logged onto MSN on the PC, and then logs onto MSN from the phone at the same time – the user image gets lost.

    July 30, 2010 at 12:35 am

I have no complaints about this program as far as functionality as an MSN goes. It works well and looks good. It even supports logins from multiple locations, which is a feature that is sorely lacking from many third party MSN clients.
My one complaint is the staggering reduction in battery life this program causes while running. A full charge won’t even last for one full day of purely standby time with MSN Talk running in the background. The back of my phone also grows warm to the touch, like it’s constantly under moderate load.
Does anyone else have this issue, or is it specific to my phone? I’m stuck on Android v1.5 since Motorola is taking their sweet time with 2.1

Great app. Some bug that I found:
    1. msn talk will open multiple chat windows even though I chat with the same person.

Both of this happen especially if I have msn online at multiple computer/device.

I’m having trouble signing in on more than one places. When connecting from MSNTalk WLM on my PC disconnects and cannot reconnect unless I stop the sign in process and tell it to sign in again. This practically makes the multiple login useless.

Nice work, But what port does msn talk use? I cant get my MSN TALK to work with my firewall settings.

    Anyone know?

I have opened port 5228 but that is just for downloading apps from market.

MSN Talk uses tcp port 1863 only.

    September 20, 2010 at 5:15 am

Is there a reason why MSN TALK constantly starts itself when not being used or wanted?
If I make or receive a phone cal MSN TALK starts!
If i enable or disable WiFi or Data MSN TALK starts.

Whatever reason you think you have or justification you want to present to us, there is Absolutely NO reason MSN TALK should be running when I make a Private phone call.

I classify this App as Malicious and Recommend against it and All others that operate in a similar fashion

    • September 22, 2010 at 5:38 am

It is not intended. For an feature named auto-idle, MSN Talk should hook out whenever users’ screen on/off events. If you are not using MSN Talk at that moment, MSN Talk shutdown by itself as soon as possible.

      But, some android phone didn’t.
So, I can’t handle this problem by myself.

    Sorry.

Not sure what you are trying to say here! I have tested MSN TALK on the HTC ERIS, HTC Incredible, Motorola Droid and Now the Motorola Droid X. In each phone MSN TALK behaves Identically, Which is, It auto Starts on its own.
Perhaps you misunderstood what I meant when I said this program auto starts, so perhaps you should test it yourself.

It has nothing to do with the phone or the Android operating system, it is how you coded your program.

You have written it so it will Auto start when ever you programmed it to, regardless of how many times the program is force closed by the user.
As I mentioned it will start up when ever the phone is in use, when ever you enable or disable WiFi or Data and when you open the browser..

Unfortunately you and many developers like you, have this “blame the phone, Android Mentality” when they are not the problem. The problem is the way YOU coded your program to work. It is not a closing issue as you tried to play it off as, It is a STARTING issue!

There is absolutely NO reason for this program to START on its own, Especially after it has previously been force closed!

    • Nico
      October 29, 2010 at 7:39 am

I agree with kalie. This app should stay off when it had been force closed. This issue/bug should be fixed or reprogrammed.

Hi great job with this app. I have a question though. Why when I see the “Events”, there are users that show they have signed out at an specific time but I cannot find at what time they signed in, it dosent appear on the events list. Does this mean that the person signed in as “offline” or that he/she has blocked me? Because I can just see they signed out but cannot find they signed in. Thank you

    • October 28, 2010 at 6:34 pm

Yes, if a contact signed in as offline and then signed out as real, it would inform you as event viewer.

      But, not for block.

I just bought a HTC Desire and installed MSN Talk. But once i log in I can’t log out anymore. Is there somewhere a log out button.

The only way i can stop it, is by turning my phone off and start it up again .. :/

    Anyone knows?

    Kind regards,

    Pieter

Would it be possible for msn-talk to show up in the phone-contactlist. Like GTalk does…? i’ve seen facebook, whatsapp, twitter and such on there but no msn…

Will it be possible to release MSN Talk for android phones (such as the HTC Wildfire) that comes with the resolution of 320×240?

I’m using MSN Talk and Droid Wall.
If I disable DroidWall MSN Talk works ok but if I enable it it doesn’t work and I also didn’t see the MSN Talk in the DroidWall Settings.

    Has anybody a idea?

    Thanks in advance
